PK Abdu Rabb, the Minister of Education of Kerala has said that boys and girls should not sit together in a class. This statement was given by him on Tuesday, he said, “As Education Minister, I do not agree to practice of boys and girls sitting next to each other in class room. I have no issue if they sit on separate chairs.”
A controversy started in Kerala after a male student was expelled from Farook College in Kozhikode after he was found sitting with girls. The matter was taken to the court where the expulsion order of the college was stayed by the court; however the state government is still not in the mood to change its stance and wants that boys and girls should not sit together. Another college has terminated the services of a teacher after he posted his views on gender discrimination on a social networking site Facebook.
It was reported earlier that a professor of Farook College has scolded five boys and four girls as they were sitting together on a bench. They were asked to come back college accompanied with their guardians.
Dinu K, a first year BA Sociology student, told media that the professor told that it is against the rules and regulations of the college that boys and girls sit together. When one female student raised her voice against it, she was scolded and nine students were asked to go out of classroom. Dinu K denied any chance of making an apology, so he was expelled.
