Saala Khadoos Movie Review

Cast: R Madhavan, Ritika Singh, Naseer, Mumtaz Sorcar, Zakar Hussain

Director: Sudha Kongara Prasad

Producer: R Madhavan

Writer: Sudha Kongara Prasad

Claps: Performances, Boxing scenes

Slaps: Too many songs in the first half might distract you a bit

What's New: A film which weaves a delightful tale around a 'khadoos' boxing coach and his 'jhalli' student

Popcorn Interval: Strictly Interval

Plot: Adi Tomar's ( R Madhavan) dream to win the boxing gold for India gets shattered when his own coach Dev Khatri spikes his gloves and causes him to lose the match. Shattered by this loss and betrayal Adi turns to the world of booze, brothel and bar-fights until his friends pull him back to this sport but this time as a coach of the Indian women's boxing. However Adi proves to be a bone of contention for his old adversaries who get him transferred to Chennai. There he chances upon a rebellious, fire spewing fisherwoman Madhi ( Ritika Singh) whose hidden passion for boxing breathes new life in his shattered dreams. Thus begins the 'taming of the shrew' and a journey where greater lessons are to be learnt outside the boxing ring.

Performance: For most of us Madhavan is still Maddy from 'Rehna Na Tere Dil Mein'. However 'Saala Khadoos' presents a very different side of him which will definitely remain etched in our minds for a long time. The actor completely nails it as the strict, no-nonsense boxing coach. ( Also girls beware! Some of you might find yourself drooling over his hot looks by the end of the film just like me)

Ritika Singh is a great find! This young girl oozes of raw talent and is quite impressive in her debut film. Despite sharing screen space with a known co-star she gets nowhere lost in her scenes and stands on her own making sure that your eyes remain glued to her.

Mumtaz Sorcar as Ritika's elder sister Laxmi aka Lux and Naseer as the junior coach have some 'shining' moments.

Zakar Hussain as the corrupt and immoral Dev Khatri too has done a good job.

Direction: Sudha Kongara Prasad has both, written and directed this film. She needs to be applauded for penning a story that focusses on one of the most neglected sports in India i.e women boxing and making sure that it tugs the heartstrings of the audience without being too preachy. However on the flip side, few scenes may be deja vu for you if you have seen Shah Rukh Khan's 'Chak De India'. Also the 'forced' love angle waters down the plot a bit as it looks a bit clichéd. Having said that, at the same time 'Saala Khadoos' is equally engaging and some heart-touching scenes from it leave you smiling from ear to ear.

The boxing sequences look realistic and are a fun to watch. The film also has plenty of crackling moments.

Combo-on-offer: Inspiring Story + Drama+ Solid punches (we mean literally!)+ Memorable Performances

Verdict: Rating:
2.5 out of 52.5 Star Rating

Mastizaade Movie Review

Beware! Mastizaade is a movie that can paralyse your grey cells for the rest of your life! There are very few incidences which can make you laugh. Also double meaning jokes are too passé & will bore you to death.

Star Cast: Tusshar Kapoor, Sunny Leone, Vir Das, Suresh Menon, Asrani, Shaad Randhawa and Riteish Deshmukh (Cameo role)

Director: Milap Zaveri

Producer: Pritish Nandy

Claps for: Literally nothing except Sunny Leone’s stammering dialogues

Slaps for: Storyline, Performances and Direction

What’s New: Coin tossing orgasm! (Sikka Hila To Pass)

Popcorn Interval: A must needed break to breathe in some sense before getting suffocated by idiocracy

Story: The story begins with the lead actors Tusshar Kapoor and Vir Das, two sex addict advertising professionals getting attracted to Sunny Leone and her sister (twin role). In search of a true love, the lusty likens pursue both the sisters. In some time, both of them understood that they were chasing totally wrong persons for their true love. The problem arises when Sunny Leone invites them on her marriage. The entire hotchpotch gets wind up with nothing but happy ending with bit of naughty actions.

Performances: Tusshar Kapoor as Sunny Kele tries very hard to perform as a star performer in the sex comedy movie. After seeing him uttering dialogues, one may think that why his role in Golmaal movie got many appreciations. Vir Das as Aditya Chothia is falling flat on his jaws with bad timing. How can we forget to talk about the center of attraction and the only selling point of the movie, Sunny Leone? She justifies her double role as twin sisters, Lily Lele and Laila Lele.. Call it as her geek look or bold look, both of her avatars are droolworthy. Milap Zaveri could have saved this sinking boat if he would give more screen space to evergreen comedian Asrani, Suresh Menon and Riteish Deshmukh. Their roles seem redundant at times and doesn’t add any value to the movie.

Direction: It’s a directorial debut movie for Milap Zaveri. There’s nothing exciting about the direction to be honest. Every dialogue carries its alternate dirty meaning which makes the audience laugh just to hide their embarrassment. In spite of many incongruent scenes and superficial storyline, Milap Zaveri deserves a full credit to incorporate every small and BIG aspects of sex comedy movie in Mastizaade. Cinematography and shoot locations are quite exotic honeymoon destinations like Pattaya, etc. which make you live till the movie ends. Somehow, the director forgets to draw a thin line between pun and vulgarity.

Combo-On-Offer: Sex Comedy + Drama + Mental Masturbation

Rating:2.0 out of 52.0 Star Rating

What Are Naseeruddin Shah & Shekhar Kapur Doing In Himesh Reshammiya’s New Movie ‘Teraa Surroor’?

Himesh Reshammiya is back with his unabashed love story Teraa Surroor. Aptly described as A Lethal Love Story, this appears to be the sequel to his questionable debut film Aap Kaa Surroor.
Just when we thought it's 2007 again, we saw Naseeruddin Shah and Shekhar Kapur in the trailer. And now we have more questions than opinions.
Go figure:

Does Appearance Affect How Injured People Are Treated? You’ll Be Shocked To Watch This

Johann Wolfgang said, “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.”
It is indeed true and if you go by this method, you can very easily get to know the character of any person.
Here we present a social experiment on the topic of appearance and help! Does appearance have an impact on how injured people are treated? Probably, you’d instantly say No after reading this but you’ll be shocked to watch the results that came into view when one such social experiment was carried out.
When a nice-looking person needed help, people around him immediately came forward to provide assistance but on the other hand, when the same aid was required by a person who looked like a beggar, people hesitated in offering a helping hand. Why? Why is it that people are tend to help those who seem to have everything but not those who have nothing?

Airlift movie review: Akshay Kumar’s film based on an untold story

Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, the much awaited film of the year is finally here…

Is Akshay Kumar Bollywood’s answer to Ben Affleck ? Well, going by the choices he’s making, clearly the actor’s Khiladi Kumar days seem over. Well, Airlift is no Argo, and thank god for that, who wants to watch a washed down version of a successful and critically acclaimed Hollywood film? In fact Airlift revolves around a situation and crises that is ten times dire and worse than the one in Argo.
What’s it about:
The real life air evacuation, the largest operation undertaken in the world during the Kuwait invasion of Iraq where over a lakh and a half Indians were rescued by the efforts of a single man wanting to make a difference is what Airlift is all about. Akshay Kumar plays Ranjit Katiyal an Indian now settled in Kuwait whose desi roots are long forgotten. His wife Amrita (Nimrat Kaur) doesn’t get his new found love for a foreign country but has no other choice than to toe his line. Things take a sinister U turn when one night Iraqi president Saddam Hussein decides to invade his oil rich neighbour Kuwait. Over night Ranjit’s life is turned upside down, the very people who would salute him are now gunning for his head. But he isn’t the only one. Over a lakh and a half Indians are stranded in no man’s land when the situation worsens and neither America or India comes ahead for help. The film chronicles the journey from the first day of invasion to the final climax where a timely Airlift by civil aircraft saves many lives. Even though the plot is one dimensional, there are multiple subplots that keep you engaged through the film.
What’s hot
Raja Krishna Menon makes a honest effort to give the film a docu drama feel in the first half. A lot of work has gone into making Oman look like Kuwait (which isn’t that tough a task given the similar landscapes), but full marks to the research team for creating the period. Everything from the props to the clothes to the visuals remind you of the 90′s when the attack happened. The supporting cast is excellent, especially Prakash Belwadi who plays the cynical George and is a character that will stay with you till the very end. He is that annoying person you might bump into anywhere who asks you those uncomfortable questions you want to slyly evade. Nimrat Kaur shines in a scene where she confronts George and gives him a dressing down for questioning her husbands motives. Akshay is completely at ease and shows remarkable versatility in being able to go from being a rick cocky Kuwaiti to a helpless Indian trying to save his family. There are several edge of the seat moments in Airlift that work, mainly because you are rooting and hoping that these people return home safe. The camera work capturing the barren landscapes paints a striking canvas. Fortunately the climax works, maybe cause you see the Indian flag fluttering in the frame for a few minutes with a teary eyed Akshay in the background. If this doesn’t give you the goosebumps, what will ?
What’s not
Airlift takes a while to make that lift! It somehow drags lazily into the interval before finally making that steep lift in the second. A big reason for this is the forceful addition of songs that aren’t required or necessary to the plot line. Here’s a serious situation of Indians fighting for their life stuck in a no man’s land, and Akshay Kumar breaks into a celebratory Punjabi song pre interval. Like why did you have to sell out ? Today’s audience is aching and starving for an experience that doesn’t compromise on their sensibilities. The Iraqi Army General who takes over Kuwait and has multiple scenes with Akshay is a complete miscast! Right from the first frame there’s nothing menacing or remotely funny (if that was the intention) about him. In fact he’s more annoying than those songs that keep popping. Also what’s with his strange accent ? I am sorry but he sounded like a Russel Peter impersonator (I am sure there is one!). Scenes of the temporary camp set up in the school where we see random characters bonding and trying to create parallel storylines are too distracting and unnecessary.
What to do:
Watch Airlift coz it tells a very important story that never got a mention in our history books. And also because the attempt to try out such subjects and storylines is applause worthy. Only if there were less songs and an editor who could tighten the length, Airlift would be soaring newer heights.

Kerala Man Feeds Hungry Street Kids In A Restaurant But Got Shocked Seeing The Bill

Even though you won’t find a number of good and nice people in the world, it’s absolutely true that humanity has not fully ended and there are still few people who believe in doing good with others. Today we make you acquaint with one such man who will prove the essential fact and inspire you too!
This is the story of an anonymous man since his name is not being revealed but he is the one who actually has got instant karma. It so happened that the man went to dine in a restaurant in Malappuram, Kerala after a day full of hectic schedule and ordered food. The moment his order reached his table, he noted that two small eyes were staring at the meal from outside the window. He asked him to come in the restaurant and the little boy along with his sister entered. Man asked them what they wanted to eat and the kid gestured at his plate so he placed one more order.
Seeing the food, the boy got very excited but his sister stopped him and gestured to wash hands first prior to begin eating. They silently ate without speaking a word and when done, they left after washing hands. Although the man did not have even a bit, he felt full! After finishing his order, he asked for the bill. He rose to wash hands and as he reached back to his table, tears started rolling down his cheeks seeing the bill.
There was no amount written on the bill but an awesome message which read,
“We don’t have a machine that can bill humanity. May good happen to you.”

Google Asked People To Film A Day In ‘Evolving India’ And The Result Is Amazing

"I am a citizen of a very great and wise country and I am proud of it", says one of the subjects in a clip, as a stadium erupts in the next one. In another clip, a mother is trying to wake up her young son who is sleeping with his headphones on, while another clip shows a very animated traffic cop. And then there is the one where the subject is explaining how he and his friends all use the Wi-Fi of his neighbour.

Truly, this video captures the essence of India - the rugged, the colourful, chaotic, fun-loving, food-loving, the gradually modernising and the stunningly beautiful India.

On October 10, Google India asked people to film 24 hours from their lives and the results are wondrous. India In A Day, produced by Ridley Scott and Anurag Kashyap and directed by Richie Mehta and filmed by you captures the power of the country.

The preview below was screened during Sundar Pichai's keynote at Google For India. The feature-length film will be released this year.  Check out the video here:'

Watch Kohli Saying “Smashed You” To Faulkner During 3rd India Vs Australia ODI

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli doesn’t miss any chance to counterblast his opposition if the opposition targets him and the same happened in 3rd ODI on 17th January, Sunday, at Melbourne Cricket Ground against Australia.
When Virat broke the batting record of AB de Villiers, it’s an instant when he got back at Faulkner saying “have smashed you”.
Batting on 72, Virat played James’ 4 dot balls in the innings’ 35th over and when he took a single on 5th ball, James said something to Virat and we know that this cricketer of India is not the one to back off and replies aggressively and that’s what he did here too.
Few words had been exchanged by both the cricketers and this is what could be got from Virat’s stump microphone, “I have smashed you enough in my life. You are wasting your energy.” Not only this, they said few other things too; nevertheless, they could not be heard.
Dean Jones and VVS Laxman were making commentary and the duo also admitted of “something happening” between both the cricketers.
Watch the video of the incident:
