In Mumbai, police forced a thief to eat four dozen bananas to recover a gold chain. A police officer told that on Wednesday late night, the accused Gopi R. Ghaware (25), who lives in Wadala, pulled a lady’s gold chain (worth 25 gms/2.5 tola) in the Ghatkopar east fish market in the eastern suburbs.
Some passer-by caught him after the lady shouted; he was then taken into custody by a police patrol and was taken to Rajawadi Hospital for medical treatment.
On Thursday, X-ray was done and the report revealed that there is a metallic object in his stomach which was the gold chain. The victim didn’t file the complaint so the police questioned Gopi who asserted that he had swallowed the chain.
Another X-ray was done on Thursday evening and it was confirmed that Gopi has gold chain in his stomach. Police ordered a basket of bananas and forced Gopi to eat all the bananas.
On Friday morning, four policemen accompanied Gopi when he went to loo and the whole process of recovering the chain was recorded. He was ordered to wash the gold chain with phenyl and he was kept in arrest.
Earlier also, Mumbai Police has forced the culprits to have bananas for recovering the gold chains so they are pretty expert in bringing things out of a person’s stomach.
